The Origins: Ponderosa Stove Works Inc.
Our story begins with Ponderosa Stove Works Inc., founded by Chuck Roberts. Chuck’s craftsmanship led to a product line known for its remarkable construction and performance, highlighted by the Ponderosa Stoves and Inserts. These exquisite products, with their intricate Ponderosa Pine silhouette on the twin glass doors, became beloved fixtures in many homes. However, as EPA regulations evolved, the cost of meeting new emission standards led Chuck to close operations in February 1980. Chuck’s legacy lives on in the cherished Ponderosa Stoves, many of which continue to serve homeowners today.

The Sweeps
The second chapter of our journey begins with Dave Cloyd, a former UPS driver and supervisor, who started his own chimney sweeping business, “The Sweeps”. Dave and his wife Diane provided a broad range of chimney cleaning, repair, and inspection services. Dave’s interactions with his customers often led to selling stoves or inserts sourced from Ponderosa Stove Works.
When Chuck decided to shut down, Dave and Diane took over the lease and renamed the business Ponderosa Stove Works. Their showroom showcased an array of fireplaces, stoves, and inserts from various manufacturers. Diane managed the retail operations while Dave continued with his sweeping business. In May 2018, Dave decided to retire and sold his business.
The Ponderosa Hearth and Home Today
In May 2018, Robert Vieira, a seasoned entrepreneur with a background in managing maintenance and engineering departments in the food industry, was exploring business opportunities in Clovis. He was drawn to a fireplace shop with a robust product range and a rich history – Ponderosa Stove Works.
Robert breathed new life into the business, infusing it with fresh product lines, primarily made in the USA. The showroom has undergone a makeover to meet modern standards, while continuing to add to its inventory of traditional and contemporary fireplaces, stoves, and inserts.
